Cell phone virus attacks 1 million cell phone users

By Chris Richardson, CSMonitor.com / November 11, 2010
New York
A new virus has struck, but this time it is attacking mobile phones instead of computers. Shanghai Daily reports that over 1 million mobile phone users in China have been affected by the new cell phone virus since September.
It is called the "zombie virus," and comes built into a fake anti-virus application that many are unwittingly downloading for protection. Instead of providing protection for the cell phone users, the application launches a malicious virus.

How will Android beat a Verizon iPhone? Sub-$50 price tags

By Christopher Dawson | November 11, 2010, 11:53am PST

I’m not alone in wondering how Google will continue to beat Apple in the smartphone race when the iPhone comes to Verizon. After all, the iPhone alone on a mediocre network is giving Android’s myriad handsets on all major carriers a run for their money, even when you combine all Android sales numbers. However, announcements from both Verizon and T-Mobile make it abundantly clear precisely how they plan to ensure Android’s dominance: price.

The Motorola Citrus launched today at $49.99 after rebate. It’s only running Android 2.1 and you won’t confuse it with a Droid X, but the pricing and eco-friendly branding (it’s made of 25% recycled materials) will ensure that a lot of Citrus phones become Christmas gifts.
T-Mobile is taking this approach about $40 further with 2 sub-$50 Android phones and 2 (the T-Mobile Comet and LG Optimus) that are free with a 2-year contract if you purchase them online. This isn’t a case of carriers trying to dump unwanted Blackberries or Palm Pre’s. This is what eWeek called “a great democratization” created by Android devices. Furthermore, Verizon now offers data plans for as low as $15 a month and T-Mobile’s unlimited web plans are priced very aggressively.

Global Smartphone Lineup for Verizon’s Fourth Quarter

A leaked photo of Verizon’s Current 3G Global Smartphones also includes their fourth quarter 2010 3G Global Smartphones, and it’s chock full of Android. Four Android smartphones, including the HTC Merge, DROID 2 Global, Motorola DROID Pro, and LG enV Pro seem as though they will be available and working in the United States as well as networks over the ocean soon. Soon, yes, soon the droids, which I love are always very visibly trademarked by Lucasfilm, will be encircling a Verizon near you.droid

Mobile Web will rule by 2015

I’ve been predicting this for sometime so its good to see some proof on it. Morgan Stanley analysts have charted the most important online trends and predicted the future of the Internet. Everything is going mobile virtually replacing the desktop. I remember when I got my iPhone I almost didnt use my desktop for a week and it still gets more usage. On the graph below you can see where its going in terms of size.

Mobile e-commerce is making up 4% of total retail sales. In certain categories, online sales account for between 45% and 20% of the total retail market. More and more stuff is being bought on Mobile and its growing.

Email use has been eclipsed by Social network use. This given with Social Media and Mobile – you can usually communicate with someone faster. In the graph below, note the increase in Facebook and the decrease in use of other email services.
